Synopsis: "Fans have long wondered what happened to Ahsoka after she left the Jedi Order near the end of the Clone Wars, and before she re-appeared as the mysterious Rebel operative Fulcrum in Rebels. Finally, her story will begin to be told. Following her experiences with the Jedi and the devastation of Order 66, Ahsoka is unsure she can be part of a larger whole ever again. But her desire to fight the evils of the Empire and protect those who need it will lead her right to Bail Organa, and the Rebel Alliance..."
First I have to come clean and say that I haven't watched the entire Clone Wars series or kept up with new series, Rebels. With that said, I do enjoy the character of Ahsoka and I also wanted to know more about her and I feel as if this book does a fairly good job of filling in the blanks for avid fans as well as the casual fan of the character.
Ahsoka takes place shortly after the clone wars and so there was a bit of playing catch up if you don't know how the series was ended (I didn't). She faked her death and that of a few of her closest clone troopers, leaving behind her lightsabers as evidence and by doing so she left the Jedi order. Now she is laying low in outer rim worlds trying to keep her head down with mixed success. It is on one such world where the Empire arrives and forces her hand as she can't sit idly by as they subjugate the populace to grow additional food for their ground forces.
The novel does a great job of showing Ahsoka's internal conflict of trying to stay out of conflicts that she would normally intervene in as a Jedi and her need to disappear from the Empire's scopes. Of course she gets involved and her actions lead to inquisitors hunting her down. One thing that I really enjoyed from this particular book is it tries and succeeds in showing how the force is a part of every Jedi. Ahsoka's clear blade lightsabers are also found/created here and it was nice to know how they came about. Without ruining the big ending for those that haven't read it yet. I will say that it was a great way to see how she comes to into the rebellion's fold.
My one complaint that I have with the book is that it doesn't take readers up to the point where she meets the crew of the Rebels TV series. I am hoping that that means there are future novels planned or movie/TV show planned. It would have been nice to know how it all comes together. While Ahsoka isn't a must read in order the overall story arc of the series, it is a great edition to the canon. If you are a fan of Ahsoka Tano I would pick it up as you won't be disappointed.
Overall 7.5/10
