Synopsis: "When you’re a witch named Trouble, chaos follows.

Arden Lesstymine (known to everyone as Trouble) likes attention as much as the next girl, but this is getting ridiculous. When an insane stranger is murdered at the inn where she works, Trouble becomes the next Soulbearer for the disembodied god of chaos, Loku. Yes, it comes with the ability to channel the god’s limitless power, but at the cost of her sanity — literally. Now she has a sexy but cynical knight claiming to be her protector, a prince trying to seduce her to his cause (and his bed), and a snarky chaos god who offers a play-by-play commentary on it all, whether she wants to hear it or not. To make matters worse, a necromancer wants to capture the soul of Loku for his own dark purposes, and the only way he can get it is by killing her first."

Well, the first part of the challenge issued to me by author, Mark Lawrence has come to a close. After 26 books to read and pick my favorite, Soul for Trouble hits all the marks. It will be passed on to the other nine reviewers and from there we shall see how it does with the rest of the bloggers. This is my review of the book:

In all honesty it has been a while since I read the book and since that time I have had to read many more and so this will be a quick review as I don't remember all of it.

The reason that this book worked for me was that it was a lot of fun. The adventure that Trouble finds herself in works. As Trouble is just a simple barmaid who is thrust into a world that is far bigger than her own. She finds herself the vessel of the god, Luku, the god of chaos. Now she is being hunted and with her trusty new bodyguard and his wolf they set of to keep her safe and avoid her untimely death at the hands of a necromancer that wants the god's powers for himself.

The characters in the book are witty and the action is quick paced leaving hardly any room to breathe. Even when Trouble finds herself safely behind castle walls she is still under threat as politics take center stage and men look to woe her. While there is romance and a bit of sexual tension, one of the things that bothered me was the love triangle that Trouble finds herself in. It just seemed unnecessary as she already had enough issues with her relationship with her bodyguard.

Soul for Trouble is a lighter story but because of the characters and the pacing it makes for a fun adventure that should have many people enjoying the ride McHugh takes you on.

8/10
