Synopsis: "National Public Radio's 1981 adaptation of Star Wars was one of the most successful presentations in the history of radio—and a very tough act to follow. Nevertheless, two years later, the members of the Star Wars production team eagerly returned to create a radio version of The Empire Strikes Back.

Like its predecessor, this electrifying drama boasts an outstanding cast (including Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Anthony Daniels as See Threepio, Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, and John Lithgow as Yoda); a greatly expanded script, with many scenes not found in the movie; and audio engineering of unparalleled excellence. The Empire Strikes Back takes you once more into a galaxy of pure sound and limitless imagination for an adventure you'll never forget."

Several years ago I reviewed the dramatization of Star Wars a New Hope and really enjoyed the experience (review here) so when I received a free credit it wasn't difficult to figure out what I was going to pick out.

The Empire Strikes Back picks up right where the last episode leaves off with a few additional scenes. What makes this listening experience so great is the voice acting. Mark Hamill reprises his role as Luke Skywalker and Anthony Daniels is C-3PO, which adds credibility to the production. One minor exception to this, is the actor who portrays Han Solo. While good, his delivery of some of the more famous lines from the movie fall flat. One interesting addition to the cast is John Lithgow who plays Yoda.

Another fantastic feature of the dramatization is the addition of extra scenes that add more complexity to the story that were more than likely left on the movie editor's cutting room floor due to either time constraints or pacing. However, they are included here and do provide a little more information that Star Wars fans will appreciate.

The Empire Strikes Back The Original Drama is a must have for any fan of the series and while it passes by very quickly will make any commute a less dreary affair. Recommended.

Overall 8/10
