Synopsis: "Case was the sharpest data thief in the Matrix, until an ex-employer crippled his nervous system. Now a new employer has recruited him for a last-chance run against an unthinkably powerful artificial intelligence. With a mirror-eyed girl street-samurai riding shotgun, he's ready for the silicon-quick, bleakly prophetic adventure that upped the ante on an entire genre of fiction."

Neuromancer is one of those books that always seems to make the must-read list for Science Fiction and I thought it was high time I took some time out of my reading schedule and gave it a go.

Henry Dorsett Case is a hacker who is past his prime, washed up. He was one of the best who got over his head when he started skimming from his employers. As punishment for his crime, they damaged his brain so that he can no longer get online. Case has spent his meager earnings attempting to fix the damage that was done to him.

When Molly a sexy, but deadly woman arrives on his doorstep offering employment and the promise that her boss could correct Case's ailment he is swept up on a job that wasn't quite what he had expected.

While I read Neuromancer, the only thing I could think of was that the world seemed, to me, to be very similar to how Bladerunner is portrayed in the movie. Lots of lights in a futuristic Tokyo. Where you can get anything for the right price.

There is a lot of slang that has very little exposition and takes a bit to gather all the right context clues in order to gain the meaning. Many of the characters are also very aloof and it is hard to find any qualities that you can identify with the characters. It is also a book that is hard to get into making it a difficult read in general. The book is short but by the time I was finished with it. I felt drained and when it was all said and done, I couldn't see myself wanting to read the next book in the series as I never identified with anyone and the books pacing left a bad taste in my mouth. Neuromancer has a great deal of fans, I just don't happen to be one of them. I was disappointed to find that I didn't like the book and I am very hesitant to read anything else by Gibson.

Overall 4/10
