Synopsis: "This novel is a brilliant first-person narrative of the rise and fall of the Norse gods—retold from the point of view of the world’s ultimate trickster, Loki. A #1 bestseller in the UK, The Gospel of Loki tells the story of Loki’s recruitment from the underworld of Chaos, his many exploits on behalf of his one-eyed master, Odin, through to his eventual betrayal of the gods and the fall of Asgard itself.

Using her lifelong passion for the Norse myths, New York Times bestseller Joanne M. Harris has created a vibrant and powerful fantasy novel that the Sunday Sun recommends “to her long-standing audience with wit, style and obvious enjoyment;” The Sunday Times claims it “lively and fun;” and The Metro adds that “Harris has enormous fun with her antihero...this mythical bad boy should beguile fans of Neil Gaiman.”

Ever since Tom Hiddleston's portrayal of the mischievous Norse God in the Marvel movies there has been upswing in his popularity. Harris' book couldn't come at a better time as we finally learn about the god and his role in Ragnarok from the god himself.

The Gospel of Loki is a first hand account of the life and times of Loki. From when he first appeared in Asgard to his personal account of his portrayal by the other gods and finally his part in bring about the end of the world.

The Gospel of Loki is a humorous look at life in Asgard and the various incidents surrounding the myth of Loki. I think what I enjoyed most about the book is it took the basic ideas and stories we have of the God of Mischief and turned them on their head, while adding a good dose of humor to the mix.

Loki isn't just a comedian or always on the look out to cause trouble but a manifestation of chaos and because of this he is always trying to upset the balance. He is also full of self-doubt, which plays a part in the way in how he interacts with the other gods and people in the world around him. Harris leaves no one out and even tells Loki's side of many obscure tales about him. She doesn't shy away from the origins of Loki's children and spouse.

When The Gospel of Loki came to a close I was disappointed. Harris wrote an instant classic and I wanted more of Loki and his adventures. The book is a must read for any mythology fan and is a terrific book if you want a similar character to the one that is portrayed by Tom Hiddleston in the Marvel movies. Highly recommended.

Overall 10/10
